A carpentry board made of lamellas or slats (according to DIN 68705-2) is called plywood. Joinery board is one of the wood-based materials and its middle layer consists of slats made of solid wood, arranged side by side and glued together. These layers are covered with veneers or edgings on both sides or one side.
Depending on the width of the slats in the middle layer, two types of plywood can be distinguished: plywood with slats between the slats (Steabchen STAE), with slats up to 7mm wide, and plywood with slats 24-30mm wide.
The slats in the middle layer are usually made from lightweight European wood species such as spruce, pine or poplar. In contrast, the facing is made from tropical species such as ilomba or fromage, gabon, or increasingly from native species such as beech or poplar.
STAB joinery board (SWL) comes in a maximum size of 2800×2070 and thicknesses of 13, 18, 22, 25, 38mm.
